What is PracticePoint?

PracticePoint is a membership-based R&D and commercialization alliance that seeks to improve healthcare technologies and develop new medical cyber-physical systems. Working together, PracticePoint members will spearhead advances in digital medical technologies, robotics, cloud computing, wireless technologies, and data science. PracticePoint researchers will leverage existing healthcare, medical device, robotics, cybersecurity, and big data ecosystems. PracticePoint unites these industries around the central purpose of positioning Massachusetts as a leader in this new wave of technological evolution and preparing its workforce to meet the challenges associated with a transformational disruption in medical technology.

PracticePoint is centered around development and commercialization of smart and secure healthcare cyber-physical systems. Cyber-physical systems, the core focus of PracticePoint R&D, is the integration of sensing, processing, and actuation – the core fundamentals of robotics; this spans from “robots” such as teleoperated surgical systems and assistive & rehabilitative robots to smart instrumentation such as wearable sensors and drug delivery systems.  At PracticePoint, we look to advance healthcare in the following areas: Medical Cyber-physical Systems, Surgical Robots, Medical Imaging and Image-Guidance, Sensing, Actuation, and Control of Medical Devices, Wearable robotics, Advanced manufacturing for personalized healthcare, Cybersecurity for medical devices, Data analytics for clinical decision support. Most such devices require unique advanced manufacturing, and as such at PracticePoint’s core we have integrated an advanced manufacturing capabilities co-located with point of practice clinical care settings.
